Writing About People with Disabilities
with Disability Advocate BJ Stasio
Saturday, May 1, 2:00-4:00 pm
Too often in the media we consume - television, film, and fiction (including romance) - people with disabilities are rarely visable. If they are included, they may be presented in stereotyped and offensive ways. BJ Stasio works as an advocate for people with disabilities. In his free time, he is also an activist. In his presentation, he will address some of the problematic ways individuals with disabilities are portrayed in popular media. He'll also encourage us to become better writers by showing us ways to create fully developed characters and avoid stereotypes.
